in trouble, on ODSP and worried

Hello, my nickname says it all.  Have a huge debt from 5 credit cards from my past experiences and last paid money against the debt 3-5 yrs ago depending on which credit card. I've had a really tough time the last few years and have been avoiding all creditors, not opening mail, not responding to mail, and changed phone number etc.  I even stopped staying in my rented home and therefore haven't received all the mail that could have been sent.   I Recently moved, changed my address on my drivers licence and surprise!  just received a letter from a creditor, probably the first of many.  I am on ODSP for a permanent disability and have been for at least the past 4 years.  I have no assets.

1. Can a creditor or financial institution garnish an ODSP cheque if it is direct deposited into a bank account?
I was told no, but it happened anyway a few years ago.
2.I am worried now that a subpoena may be coming my way to go to court and could get arrested for non payment and avoiding creditors for all this time
3.  Is there a limitation period where creditors don't/can't go after debt collection?
I've  heard something about a 7 year limitation period, or some kind of importance of 7 years.  I am dazed and confused and would really appreciate any advice.

May be try to set up an appointment with a trustee  or a credit counselor , it does not  mean , you have to go bankrupt, they would give some good advice, what is legal or not ?  which way to go? what are your options?
