Free credit report/score online
« on: January 22, 2017, 08:13:25 PM »
I am in a proposal and have been watching my score/report. There is one place where you can get it once a year free(transunion consumer disclosure), but if you go to creditkarma.ca, make sure its the Canadian site its free to browse all the time for the most part, make sure you answer the security questions right the first time or your locked out! Just thought I should share this. I am not sure how long it will be free, but it works great for me so far, read the fine print of course. I know you can get these free or for a small charge by mail and fax, but figured I would share this as it was quick and easy and online.

CreditKarma has TransUnion reports, but you can also get your Equifax score from borrowell.com, mogo.ca, or ratehub.ca.

None of these have as much detail as CreditKarma, you only get the score and nothing else.  One thing to note about borrowell, mogo, and ratehub is that they all use the Equifax ERS 2.0 score.  ERS 2.0 is a different scoring model than Equifax uses when you check your score on Equifax.ca, and you will probably have a different score.  However the ERS 2.0 score is actually more reflective of the scoring models used by lenders, so really it's better than the score you would get on Equifax.ca.

You seem to know a little about these reporting places, do you know if watching creditkarma is pretty acurate, can I trust that it will be pretty acurate compared to what a bank, rental agency, or automobile dealership would see? I see my foreclosure on there sort of, but it does not show any court action taken yet, which is wrong, some things are not quite acurate and I was thinking maybe once my consumer proposal was complete it would update it properly....thats in another 4 years though! I can live without a good credit rating, but it means I have to rent for a long time!

I subscribed to TransUnion's credit monitoring for a full year, and from my experience Credit Karma reports exactly the same as TransUnion.  Except it is missing my Consumer Proposal, which I paid off a year ago.

But out of the two credit bureaus, Equifax is actually used by more lenders.  So really it's your Equifax score that matters the  most.

There is a thread on the Red Flag Deals  finance forum called "List of Lenders that pull Equifax, Transunion, or Both". It's a great reference when you are deciding where to apply.

I ordered my TransUnion file...will probably do it for a  year.  Found quite a few errors on it though.  The major error being that they had 2 terms of our proposal wrong.

We have a car loan with Toyota that we were able to keep (o% interest for about 3 more years/half finished) but TransUnion has it listed as part of our proposal.
There is also a TD Visa ($9,300) that was part of the proposal that is listed as active.

I called TransUnion....1st person I talked to her accent was thick I could not understand her.  Hung up and got a man who was a little better but still hard to understand.
He said he could not do anything about it.  So I talked to the Trustee and they are looking into it.

I will be getting the Equifax free for a year soon as 4Pillars has signed some sort of deal with them.  I am guessing that will be wrong also.

My credit score was really low.....525 I think....ughh.  But we just paid off the proposal in 5 months so hopefully it will start to rise again.

Nice to see this site up and running again.

I used credit karma and borrowell to monitor my credit score. The numbers are still depressing but it's improving!

I hear you jennykk ... I am at 559 (yikes).  There are a ton of errors in both TransUnion and Equifax report though  and I was told they update quarterly and wait another month or 2 before starting on getting them corrected.  Which could make a difference as there are some major errors right now.

The Equifax with 4P is not free. You can purchase it at a cheaper price through them.
Anyway, I didn't buy it. I use Borrowell and Creditkarma to monitor my credit score.

We both got 1 year free of Equifax thru 4Pillars.  Maybe that deal is just in BC.  I can try and find out.
