CRA debt
« on: March 11, 2014, 12:44:25 PM »
I was just checking my notices of assessment few days ago. I noticed that I was re-assessed again on 2009. The amount indicated was way more than what I claimed. I was already penalized with my wages garnished. Now this latest  2nd assessment indicates different amount ( different from their previous communications too). Now the interests and arrears are added to my existing interests and arrears. I am just hoping if anybody could advise me where to go for assistance to clear this up. CRA appeal would not entertain my questions because my case is already closed. I am so so stupid and desperate.

If you are bankrupt, the amounts don't really matter, unless you are considered a "high income tax debtor". You would give your trustee all of the documentation, but the CRA claim doesn't include penalties and interest, only the principal.

If you are having trouble with the CRA and can't get resolution, talk to the Taxpayer's Ombudsman.
