Very POSITIVE EXPERIENCE
« on: September 22, 2014, 10:04:44 PM »
This website was an incredible resource for us when we were both considering bankruptcy and going through the entire process. We, my husband and I, both declared bankruptcy at the same time and we were discharged in September of 2013. Its the end of September 2014, and we have been discharged for ONE YEAR. Since discharge, we have both been approved for an unsecured Credit Card from Canadian Tire Financial. And this past week, we financed a vehicle, through Scotia-Bank Dealer Finance, for a $43,000 dollar vehicle, with no downpayment, and a 7.9% interest rate. We gross $110,000 so the payments aren't a problem, and because of our shift work, we needed an all-wheel drive SUV. The only thing we can say, that we think made the difference in our rapid recovery is this. We paid every single debt, minimum payment, right up until the day that our Trustee said stop. Post Bankruptcy, my credit score was 620. I am so grateful for our experience, as we have learned so much. We are treating credit as a complete privilege. We are different people for the experience. I wanted to share, because I wanted to show everyone, that recovery was possible. :)

Congrats !!!!!!!!!!!!

I love  this site for asking questions and reading about people's different experiences.  I have just recently gone through bankruptcy and it has been a very emotional experience for me ...but a learning one as well . I starting on the track to get my life back in order :-)

As for suggestions for this site me personally I would like to have more support for the emotional side ( I have felt nothing but shame and embarrassment ) so this has been hard to deal with . otherwise this site is great :-)

Congratulations, Cleveland!  This site is so wonderful in that it gives us a place we can go to get support, knowledge, and understanding.  I have a question to ask.  You wrote that you were approved for a Canadian Tire MasterCard, since being discharged, but, was Canadian Tire MasterCard one of the companies you had owed money to in your bankruptcy?  The reason why I ask is because I filed for bankruptcy in April 2013 and I was discharged in January 2014.  I currently have a credit card, however, there is a specific credit card that I want to apply for in the near future, and I am wondering if they'll grant me a credit card with them even though I included their company & card in my bankruptcy.  Reading your response will help me get a better understanding of my chances, even though I know that each situation is unique to each person.  Thanks for any insight that you can provide!

How great to see someone 'in charge' write on here, thank you!!  ;D
I think if I had any suggestion for site maintenance I would just ask that maybe occasional posts by "people in the know" with either outcome experiences of [renamed] clients/ testimonials/ suggestions on repairing credit or other helpful advice sure would be welcomed. I think that's why I consistently revisit here is to ask questions and get advice. And I see others doing so too. Otherwise just maybe a little update to this forum could be helpful. I can't seem to PM people or post links and using HTML or whatever codes here is a little outdated. Just my 2 cents though of course  ;)

Hi nomoreclimbingdebt -

Thank you for your feedback!  Let me address your comments, they are excellent :-)

1. Who would YOU consider people in the know.  Would that be other members of the support group, or industry experts?
2. Where would you like to see this information on the site, is it something you'd like in the support group or on the main site?  We do have a testimonials blog category on the main site, and a share your story area here on the forum where you could ask for advice from other members (or provide it to others like you do).  How could we make that better for you?

Yes I quite agree this form is very outdated and you'll be happy to know that we've already scheduled an upgrade for the end of the year.  I'm quite excited about it as well.  This form is locked down to avoid people spamming you.  We found when we had PM turned on, or links we got a lot of spammers and we want to keep this form all about you and keep the spammers out.  So that's the logic behind that decision.  The new forum should be up by Christmas :-).

Your 2 cents are worth alot more than that!  We are all very thankful to have people like you sharing on this forum.  Bankruptcy can be very scary and people often feel alot of shame about it.  People like you who share your advice and hope help a lot!  It's a place for people to break through those feelings to see they are not bad people and that there are a lot of people in the same situation as they are who can share their experiences here on this site.

Kind Regards
Jarret

Hi All!

Just writing to thank Cleveland for the positive post, and also take an interest in the suggestions nomoreclimbingdebt has made and Jarret's response. I've been on the forum pretty much since its beginning and it was MOST helpful to me. Now that I'm out of my CP, I still check in to help out if I have useful info ... especially since being insolvent can be so scary and unexpected.

Re: the mechanics of the forum, I figured not being able to post links, and also the fact that the ability to PM disappeared along the way, had to do with security. I didn't use PM much anyway - the point of a forum is that it's information for ALL ... so perhaps it's not a big priority to be able to PM (or have avatars or ratings or any of that folderol ... but that's just me, I'm old fashioned!)  :)

Thanks Jarret for weighing in - I know it's a tough job to oversee and moderate a forum. This has always been an excellent one with very little distraction from spammers or bullies, and I know it doesn't happen by accident.

Maybe we should have a section for "success stories" to reassure those who are cringing in fear, as we all did at one time. I would certainly contribute my story.

Thanks to all!
~Wendy

Hi TreeFrog -

Thank you for your feedback and suggestions!  Great ideas.  In response I have created two new sections to the site "Success Stories" and "Suggestions for improvements".  You can be the first one to share there if you wish!

I also thank you for coming back and contributing to the forum.  You are one of our most valued contributors.  As a Sr. member you have helped literally hundreds of people with your comments, advice and support.

I would like to personally thank you on behalf of all the others.

Any other suggestions are welcome.
Kind Regards,
Jarret

Thanks JAustin and Treefrog; I think the PM thing to me is nice because like Pickles said, there are sometimes emotional baggage that you carry along with you during this process. I feel it heavily too. It's nice to be able to send someone a private hey, I get what you're saying, me too, and not have to post that publicly..
