bankruptcy support group in Ottawa
« on: March 25, 2009, 05:30:17 PM »
I am starting a bankruptcy support group in Ottawa, in the hope of having support meetings instead of just discussing on the Internet.
If interested in joining, email me to
bankruptcysupportgroup at gmail dot com
(Sorry I have to spell it that way, the site would not allow email addresses. One more reason to start a group with actual meetings.)
Let's finish with the isolation and the unfounded shame.

Thanks for your encouragement.
As I am going through bankruptcy myself, I found there are no support groups where people in the same circumstances can meet and discuss ways to cope with immediate practical problems, like difficulty to rent accomodation, which I am going through, as well as the emotional problems, which some people already described, such as feelings of guilt and shame.
It works for all kinds of problems, from AlAnon to families of cancer sufferers, from divorced fathers unable to see their children to former soldiers. We should help ourselves. Solidarity and a non-judgemental environment do work.
BTW. I am not a trained psychologist or anything, although I do have many degrees, up to a PhD. Including masters in Economics and PoliSci.

I would love to be in a support group, I am not in ottawa though.  I had friends and family all abandone me after I went broke and it is a terrible feeling that never goes away.  The hopelessness is so real it frightens me.  I am grateful for dissolving the debt but the price I paid is too high.

I am a Carleton Journalism student currently writing a profile on the office of the superintendent of bankruptcy.

I'd like to interview someone in Ottawa about their personal experiences with the OSB.

If anyone is interesting please feel free to email me at j-school at hotmail dot com

This article is not to be published and is strictly for a school assignment.

Your help is greatly appreciated

Thanks!
